What are the teaching and team time structures like?

Teachers work from two to five days per week depending on the school, with roughly one hour of preparation per hour of teaching. Preparation includes designing instruction, planning lessons, and grading.

Formal team meetings take place once or twice a week and include professional and team development. Teammates also spend time together informally in community with each other and local friends.

What does ongoing professional/personal development look like?

With teammates in all different phases of life and career, professional development is not one-size-fits-all. Each teacher’s personal and professional development is both self-guided and supported by the accountability of authentic community with their team.  Teachers log their professional development work and share takeaways at team meetings. There are also occasionally professional development efforts put forth by the school.

What is housing like?

Housing varies slightly depending on specific teacher placement, but in most cases, teammates live in apartments near to each other and the school. Singles usually live with a teammate of the same gender. In some cases, these apartments are provided by the school.

What is it like to raise a family in Jordan?

It certainly has its challenges, but there is a lot of support for families in Jordan, including groups like the Expat Moms Tea Group. If only one spouse is teaching, the other will find plenty of opportunities to be engaged in the local community. The high value of hospitality in this culture gives plenty of room to connect outside of the classroom.
